The morning post flew in from the ceiling of the Great hall. A mass of owls roared overhead like usual, those below eating breakfast without recognition to the fowl. A menagerie of birds landed on the Slytherin table, one landing directly in front of Lucius Malfoy.

It was a brawny hawkish bird with silvery feathers that was carrying the large package addressed to Malfoy. Narcissa Black leaned over to inspect the package across the table from her. Lucius reached out, untied the package from the bird and then untied a letter from the package. He broke the seal with his fork and quickly read the note, pocketing it. He then began to eat again, leaving a few around him quite curious.

“What’s that, Lucius?” Narcissa questioned, giving the square package an appraising look.

“Something I’ve been wanting,” Lucius answered with a bit of a smirk. “You would like to see, wouldn’t you, Black?”

Narcissa raised her nose in the air ever so slightly, “I suppose it wouldn’t be inappropriate of me to be curious.”

“Of course not,” Lucius replied. “We’ll have to leave the hall, however.”

“May I ask why?” She inquired, suspicion leaking into her voice. “Why not show it to me right now?”

“It’s a secret,” Lucius brushed her concerns off. “Follow me.” He stood from the table and a heartbeat later Narcissa was on her feet as well. They walked to the main hall, off a passage, and into the lower level of the castle where there wasn’t likely to be anyone at that time of morning. Lucius pulled the wrapping off the package to reveal two volumes of Dark Magic.

“Oh, Lucius,” Narcissa gasped at the books. “You’re going to be in so much trouble if you get caught with those! Most Potente Potiones? You’re only a fourth year.”

“Dark magic fascinates me,” He shrugged nonchalantly. “What’s wrong with doing a little research?”

Narcissa debated saying anything in response to her friend’s comment. She sighed, “I guess if it’s only research then you really couldn’t get in too much trouble. I mean, you’re not going to use any of that other book on people, right? I mean, that one has stuff on the Unforgivables, I heard.”

Lucius gave a wide, full blown smirk on this comment, “Of course not, Cissy. Of course not.”
